Babeland gets Gender-Expressionistic

Checking my inbox not too long ago, I saw a message from Babeland announcing a new category of products on their website:

Gender-Expression

We know how hard it can be to find sex toys, accessories, and tools that support and affirm the lived experience and sexuality of our transgender, transsexual, gender-non-conforming, and gender-questioning customers. For that reason, we’re very happy to introduce Babeland’s Gender Expression collection!  From soft packs to harnesses, stand-to-pee (STP) devices to binders, vaginal dilators to pumps (and more), we offer a wide variety of products to meet our customers’ needs. These products are also wonderful for anyone looking to play with gender, regardless of their identity, as an exploration in and of itself. Check out our selection at http://www.babeland.com/gender-expression

They’ve invited myself and several other bloggers — genderqueers, trans, butch and more, to check out the new category and consider doing product reviews, and offering feedback.

Here’s part of my response:

I think this is a great idea.  I’ve been a bit put off, at times, with the way some sex toy companies sell these items.  Sometimes they’re sold as novelties, sometimes as the best penis enlargement options or a legitimate additions to people’s sex life, but not usually as an instrument of gender and identity expression.  Something I’ve always appreciated about Babeland is that you don’t use a lot of models on your product pages.  Some websites do and those models rarely look like me or anyone I know who uses strap-ons, dildos, packers, etc.

I’m hoping for a cool banner for my website from  a web design company online and a continued commitment for researching and offering quality products for all of us who bend, manipulate, twist and otherwise push gender.  I’m interested in what you, my genderqueer, trans, butch readers think about what Babeland is doing with this new product category.  What should they add to the products they’re selling?  Do you feel respected and well served at Babeland?  How about other sex toy companies?

On these pages, I’ve reviewed dildo harnesses, dildos, packing cocks and pouches, stand-and-pee devices and much more.  Now I’m pondering what else I should try… like maybe binders, other packing devices, etc.  Got any recommendations or requests?  Send ’em my way.  I gave up reviewing last year because it became a bit of a chore, and it seemed like Babeland wasn’t offering the right kind of products for review.  I’m feeling a bit more optimistic now, so I might give product reviews another shot.

Other sites

Tabu Toys was always one of my favorite companies to review for, mostly because the people I worked with were awesome.  I just checked into their site and they now have a Transgender sub-category.  However, it caters to the MTF side of the family.  There’s no overlap in products with what Babeland offers:  knee high boots, padded panties, black pumps in large sizes.  Also, some bizarre products:  TS “love dolls” and a Make-Your-Own-Tranny strap-on kit.  Hmmm, yeah, those items fall into the novelty area for me and strike me as disrespectful and sensationalist.

I can’t say that I’ve done exhaustive research into how sex toy companies are marketing to trans/genderqueer/butch consumers but, so far, I’d say Babeland’s approach is pretty good.  Check it out.

I’d be interested in reading reviews on their binders. As far as I can tell, they only offer 2 choices. Thanks!

I’m hoping they’ll expand their offerings, but that will probably mean they need to get feedback and suggestions. Participation from potential customers of these products will go a long way. I’m considering reviewing at least one binder, even though binding isn’t something I use as part of my gender expression. If you have ideas, I could forward them to the right people at Babeland, or you could go directly – K
